Welcome to Way of Life Aiki Dojo - Karate and Aikido

We offer a unique approach blending aikido with karate.

Aikido is a non-violent martial art based on joining with any attack made against you. Using your attacker's own energy, this results in the attacker losing balance, being thrown to the ground or held in place.

In Aiki Karate, we join with the attacker's energy, rendering them harmless, then strike them in the most effective way.

Why choose Way of Life Aiki Dojo - Karate and Aikido?

Our classes offer the following main benefits:
  • Taught by a fully qualified and experienced primary school teacher - so your instructor is not just an expert in the martial arts, but also knows how to help you learn at your best.
  • Holistic approach based on a combination of all major styles of Aikido, combined with meditation and the Japanese equivalent of Yoga, along with the instructor's own extensive experience in other martial arts and fitness
  • In addition to Aikido, learn the unique art of "Aiki Karate" - where the harmony principle of Aikido has been applied to the striking art of Karate. You will not find the same type of karate anywhere else!
  • Develop: fitness, self defence, calmness, focus (leading to improved ability in work and study), conflict resolution skills (daily life and verbal interactions), coordination of your whole body along with mind/body coordination

Children
Children eight years and older are welcome to attend these classes. Aikido is a complicated martial art and is usually very difficult for children younger than this age. Our classes are very suitable for children, as they are taught by an experienced primary school teacher, include plenty of games that develop Aikido skills in a fun way and techniques are taught in a way that is easy to understand. Aikido is a good form of self defence for children, as it is effective against an attacker who is bigger and stronger than you. It can also help them in all areas of their life, such as focus in school, dealing with conflict and bullying and developing health and fitness and preventing injuries.

Teens
Teenagers can really begin to understand the deeper aspects of the art. Also, at this age you tend to be quite intensely focused in areas of your interest, which gives you the opportunity to really develop your Aikido. As you go through the challenges of this time of growth and change, Aikido will help you stay healthy in mind and body and handle difficulties in a calm and effective way.

Adults
As an adult, you can really appreciate the value of Aikido for your daily life, such as dealing with conflict, finding relief from stress and rejuvenating your health and fitness. For adults, simply the study of Aikido techniques will usually be enough to find plenty of interest in the art - unlike children, who need more games etc. However, the games we play in our classes are important for adults to rediscover a sense of play and have fun - which is proven to relieve stress. Adults have the opportunity to understand the deep philosophy behind Aikido.
